Guide to Tamos
- migration
- migrating your stuff from tamos.gmu.edu to tamos.net in several easy steps!
-
- e-mail
- e-mail is very different from "before." hopefully, this will get you up to speed.
-
- finger
- the finger server on tamos.net is specially modified. (so it works) there are a few
more options available to you now such as withholding personal finger information and
logging.
-
- "man" pages
- "man" pages are like mini manuals. nice developers (with some noted exceptions) usually
write these guides for use with their programs. some people find them cryptic, some people
don't. the pages are usually organized into sections, designed by numbers, which tell you
what kind of page it is. (for instance, section 1 deals with user programs and section 5
deals with file formats.) I've done it a little differently by grouping man pages together
by the software packages they come with.
-
- news groups
- yeah... news groups.
-
- remote access
- there are a few ways you can access tamos remotely.
-
- responsible use policy
- just what it says. Applicable to everyone with accounts.
-
- web space
- the web server on tamos is somewhat modified from the original source, but there's a
lot it can do for you.
